Heavy metals pose a serious threat to the environment and living organisms since these tend to bioaccumulate. Mercury (Hg) is one of the most toxic heavy metals, which is elevating dangerously in the soil and water. Its damaging effects appear even at very low concentrations due to its high mobility. This paper presents concise information about toxic effects of Hg on Indian mustard plants and the adaptive mechanisms employed for survival by the plant. Moreover it was observed that Indian mustard can be a potential candidate for phytoremediation of mercury contaminated soils. .
