Physico- Chemical Markers of Salt Stress In Mucuna pruriens Seedlings

In Mucuna pruriens seedlings maximum root length, fresh weight and moisture percentage were highest at 100mM NaCl in 15 days old seedlings. Increased root length indicates struggle and search for water by roots. All physical parameters decreased with an increase in salt concentration. Biochemical parameters like protein, proline and nitrogen were recorded to be highest in higher salt concentration (100 and 150mM NaCl). Increased proline with decrease in phenolic contents indicate that proline plays an important role in stress tolerance than phenolics in this plant during vegetative growth phase...
