Morphological and Biochemical Fluctuations in Maize Varieties Grown under Cadmium Stressed Environment
The effect of different concentrations of heavy metal cadmium on morphological and biochemical changes in two different varieties of maize namely AMH-2457 and Sweety-4212 was studied. The result showed that all of the morphological characters were adversely affected with the increasing dose of cadmium moisture percentage, tolerance indices, fresh weight and dry weight decreased with the increasing dose of cadmium. Among the biochemical characters chlorophyll, carotenoid, protein showed remarkable decrease with increase in concentrations of cadmium. Both the varieties of maize showed significant adverse response to the cadmium. Variety AMH-2457 of maize (Zea mays L.) among the two varieties is less tolerant to higher concentrations of Cadmium.
