Entrapment of the Inferior Calcaneal Nerve as a Result of a Trauma (Baxter’s Neuropathy)

Entrapment and neuropathy of the inferior calcaneal nerve (ICN) is a rare clinical entity in the neurosurgical daily routine. We present the case of a young patient suffering from severe neuropathic pain in consequence of a working accident. Insufficient diagnosis and treatment over two years led to the point that the pain became chronic. After more precise evaluation at our institution we diagnosed entrapment syndrome of ICN and decompressed the nerve surgically. We present clinical symptoms and performed therapy and highlight special features of this rare clinical entity.
