Nanotechnology at the service of the modern world

Ahmad A Al-Qaisia

The thoughts and ideas that led to nanoscience and nanotechnology began with a talk entitled “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” by physicist Richard Feynman at a meeting of the American Physical Society at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) on December 29, 1959, long before the term nanotechnology was used. In his talk, Feynman described a process in which researchers would be able to control and regulate individual particles and atoms. More than 10 years later, in his research on ultra-precision machining, Professor Norio Taniguchi gave birth to the term nanotechnology. It was not until 1981, with the development of the filter magnification instrument capable of “seeing” individual particles, that advanced nanotechnology began.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology are the study and use of very small things and can be used in various scientific fields, for example, science, science, physical science, materials science and design.
